Legal Referrals

Proyecto Faro offers a free monthly legal empowerment clinic for the community in addition to community defense actions and visits for people detained by ICE at the Orange County Jail. We work with trusted volunteer attorneys who will consult with you at the clinic. Currently, we don’t have attorneys who can fully represent you. For questions about immigration matters or referrals, or to report a problem with your attorney, you can reach out to the New York State Office of New Americans operated by Catholic Charities at (800)566-7636.

Catholic Community Services of Rockland, Inc. offers immigration legal services to immigrants in need of assistance with immigration status including Application for Naturalization, Relative Petitions, Work Authorization Applications. A minimal consultation fee may apply. (845)942-5791.

Warnings:

  • Do not trust anyone (legal attorney or notary public) who promises you that they can get your application approved.

  • If you hire an attorney, understand what they will file for you. Get a written agreement signed by your attorney, which details what the attorney will do for you and how much it will cost you. Make sure to get a receipt for any money you pay to your attorney and a copy of any application filed on your behalf.

  • Remember, it is not possible to get an employment card without filing an application for immigrant relief.
