In February 2026 Rockland Legislator Beth Davidson and four other co-sponsors introduced the Safety and Dignity Act to put into place basic protections for immigrants in the County, including a prohibition on county agencies sharing sensitive information about immigrants with DHS/ICE. County Executive Ed Day has vowed to veto this legislation if it passes. Therefore we need a supermajority, meaning all 12 democratic legislators, to vote yes on this bill. Currently Democrats Jay Hood, Aney Paul, and Toney Earle Sr. have not come out in support of this proposal, which is by no means a sweeping bill. Instead, it’s the bare minimum protection for our immigrant residents. | SADA PROTECTS COUNTY FUNDING AND RESOURCES County employees are not federal immigration agents. When local staff are pulled into ICE enforcement tasks, it drains the time and money meant for Rockland services — and hands our resources over to a federal political agenda. |
